Gupta is a seasoned software architect and leader with over 20 years of experience in developing distributed, highly scalable enterprise applications using cutting-edge technologies. She thrives on tackling challenges and enjoys engaging in problem-solving sessions. Passionate about increasing female representation in the tech industry, Preeti actively volunteers with organizations such as Rewriting the Code etc. to support this mission.

Below, Gupta shares some of her insights about her successful career and what she sees in the future.

Question: How did you get your start in the industry?

Answer: I am a Chemical engineer by education. Immediately after college, I was hired by Infosys Technologies Ltd., a software firm that believed if I could solve problems, I could write code. They were right, and I can confidently attest to that. Since then, I have been in IT and love what I do.Gupta

Q: What is your current responsibility and what is your typical day like?

A: My daily activities include:

  • Guiding and mentoring a diverse team to foster a collaborative and efficient work culture.
  • Overseeing solution architecture to ensure scalability, maintainability, and security across various requirements.
  • Conducting code reviews and driving automation initiatives to maintain high code quality standards and promote secure coding practices.
  • Collaborating with users and stakeholders to define product/application roadmaps, address feedback, and identify pain points.

My guiding principle is to maintain simplicity and security in software architecture.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: The ever-changing nature of the job ensures that every day presents a new challenge, whether it’s starting a new requirement, troubleshooting issues, or choosing the most appropriate technology or approach.

Q: What trends in architecture are you looking out for the rest of 2023 and 2024?

A: Some of the trends that will continue to shape the industry are:

  • Hybrid cloud
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Zero Trust Security models
  • Low-Code/No-Code platforms
  • Full-stack observability and monitoring solutions

Q: What is one thing we can do to support or increase the women in architecture?

A: Mentorship and sponsorship programs are crucial. Promoting success stories is essential because, as the saying goes, “Seeing is believing.” Having a role model matters particularly for women.
