Featured in this week’s spotlight is Ayisha Tabbassum , Onsite Lead – Multi- Cloud Architecture Design and Operations at Otis.
Tabbassum migrated to the United States and pursued a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Indiana University Bloomington.
Highly motivated and a self-driven certified professional, she has almost a decade of industry experience in Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, DevSecOps, and Site Reliability Engineering. Tabbassum has a domain expertise in E-Commerce, Big Data, Cloud Provider, Hospitality, Confidential Computing and Cloud Security Domain.
She has worked for reputable firms, such as Cognizant Softvision, Ugam-Merkel, UST Global, Astics Inc, and Intel as well as served large-scale and well-known clients, such as NetApp, Macys, Amazon, Flipkart, Country Inn, Intel.
Following below, Tabbassum shares some of her insights about her successful career and what she sees in the future.
Question: How did you get your start in the industry?
Answer: I had a wonderful beginning in middleware, virtualization and cloud computing technologies for a large retail client, where I was given opportunity to work, understand and contribute to architecture designs, infrastructure automation and change management for critical production changes. Then I began my journey into multi-cloud platforms, observability, site reliability and edtech innovations.
Q: What is your current responsibility and what is your typical day like?
A: My current responsibilities include being the founder and CEO of “One Stop for Cloud” and being an onsite lead for Otis’ leading major cloud operations tower on Azure, GCP and AWS.
My typical day starts at 5 am, beginning my day with humble prayers and gratitude for this beautiful life, going through emails and follow ups between 8 and 10 am. Then I attend meetings between 10 and 1PM. After that, I am planning, designing, implementing, automating and monitoring the multi-cloud resources between 2PM – 5PM. I take a break of an hour, connect with my tech friends on multiple channels, curate content for the learning community, collaborate with peers and industry leaders for AI education.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to work with dynamic teams across different geos and cross functional platforms. The frequency of updates is very high and needs attention to minute details to designing architectures for multi-cloud deployments, disaster recovery, automated provisioning and deprovisioning, security audits, monitoring the infrastructure and application performance needs.
Q: What trends in architecture are you looking out for the rest of 2023 and 2024?
A: I am looking for trends in integrating AI in IT operations, AI in code development, AI in Cloud Platforms, AI in Site Reliability Engineering and AI in Observability trends in 2024.
Q: What is one thing we can do to support or increase the women in architecture?
A: Bring in diverse talents, train team leaders, increase community engagements, come up with recognition and rewards program, have annual conferences online and in-person.
